Tristan and Isolde
I think all of my girls who saw this movie with me this past weekend would agree in saying that it was not at all what we were expecting. Beneath all of the blood, Head-Chopping, Hanging, Stabbing, Arrow shooting, and fire setting....there was also, lying, sex and adultery. Where was the Romance you may ask? This was my question exactly! Maybe my expectations of what true love should look like are totally bogus, but the best line in the whole movie, which was also the only line that they showed in all the tv previews was :
Isolde: How many have you loved before me?
Tristan: None
Isolde: And after me?
Tristan: None
good....but not in the context in which is was given. The only other best part of the movie we all agreed on was Isolde's Betrothed, He was Super, and died all too quickly if you ask me! hahahaha Also other good things to say about it: Isolde's Hair,...The King looked just like Kim Bies's friend Austin from project( Identical it was scary), Isolde and her maid keeping Tristan warm ( it gave us all a Good Chuckle!) So all in all, I wouldnt say I disliked it, I would say that once again my expectations were off and all too high, I tend to do that alot. But it was fun solely because of the company of 4 ladies who could find the humor in it with me! :-)
Authentic Beauty....It's not just a book :-)
Lately I have come to realize all of the many truly beautiful things and people around me. I've shared some amazing conversations with some of the women in my life here lately and I just cant explain the blessings that come from that. There are lots of pretty people, but to encounter true beauty and to see the beauty of the Lord reflected in and through your friends is so wonderfully refreshing. I've been very renewed and refreshed through not only friends, but through some new music i've recently discovered. I love when I find songs or Artists that completely verbalize the way i'm feeling at that moment or put situations into lyrics that are completely relatable.
Tristan Prettyman, who Corrie introduced me to has a song called
" Love Love Love" on her Cd
Twentythree. The title sounds like something I would typically like, but the lyrics are so much more real and heartfelt than it sounds, anyway I just feel like every girl I know can relate to this woman's music. Also, my new personal favorite is the piano stylings of
Rachael Yamagata. My beautiful friend Kim Hooper introduced me to her over christmas break and her music and lyrics bring out emotions that I didnt even know I had! Personally, her song
"Letter Read" has completely paralled somethings Ive been going through lately. Her Cd is called
Happenstance So good, if you are a female you will love these musicians promise!! Anyway, there has been and abundance of Beauty around my world lately, or maybe its always there and I am just in a vulerable place and my eyes have been opened to it now?! Either way, it's inspiring and makes me see the Lord's beauty even that much more. :-)
Lovin, Livin, and Laughing so much
I decided that one of my favorite things about my girl friends is how much fun they are and how they are always good for a laugh. Seriously I was trying to remember that last time I was with girls and didnt laugh, and I can't! Most of the time we can find humor in the everyday situations, and we laugh at oursleves mostly. We arent much for telling jokes really, it's usually us just reminescing about silly things we've done or said, and its all about the timing. It's always of course funnier when the outburst of laughter cannot be contained in the most Inapropriate of situations; Church for example, and causing a scene in front of all of Taco Cabana, or getting a case of the giggles in the middle of a Cru meeting due to one key word or phrase that is taken completely out of context and sets off somthing inside that cannot be contained, but must be released in the form of a giggle-fit. This is just one of the many reasons I love my friends. They say that laughter is the best medicine, and I would venture to say that is a wise analysis. :-) Andy Davis has a fabulous song on his cd called "
Laugh So You Dont Cry" hahaha many times I feel like that could be the case as well, but reguardless I'm thankful for the joy that my friends bring to my life through our laughter together!
Be Near
The last couple of days, and last night esspecially, there is a Bethany Dillon song that has been resonating in my heart and mind and I thought I would just share it with you all I hope the lyrics can bless you as well.
Be Near Me
by: Bethany Dillon
I follow all the rules
Well, at least I’m trying
Hoping when my days are through, I’ll think I’m worth Your dying
I’ve lived the longest days Thinking my heart was so bad
Too scared to look in Your face Oh, if only I had
And is it alright If I stay here all night By the shoreline;
I cannot believe You are angry or unjust
You have done nothing but have compassion on us.
So be near when I’ve given up, Be near me
I’m just like everyone else,We are all hiding
Acting like I have a wealth Of knowledge and peace
But all I’ve ever wanted, And what men have given their lives for
Is a God who understands my weaknesses, A God that I can love
I believe You are good and righteous
You’ve given me Your reckless love
So be near, be near…
2006..out with the Old and in with the New
I wont pretend to be one of those people who are all about New Year's resolutions, because I honestly just quit making them b/c I never kept them. Every year at Dallas Winter Conference, because it's so close to the beginning of the new year, I do begin to reflect on the previous year, the good, the bad, and all that the Lord taught me, and mistakes that I made, and lessons learned, and all of the many blessings in between. I enjoy reading my journal from the last year, its funny to see what a difference a year...a month...a day makes somtimes. I enjoy more getting a new journal which I recently purchased right before DWC. There is something to be said for starting fresh. While the last year definitely had its downfalls, it also holds everything from the most incredible, life-changing Summer of my life, and what the Lord has taught me since. Its fun to reflect and go back to those times, but other moments in that journal I was thrilled to put away forever. Although I wouldnt change anything about 2005 b/c it brought me to where I am now.One new thing Ive begun this semester is readin My Utmost For His Highest everyday. It has verses and excerpts from Oswald Chambers for each day of the year. It's still very early January and I have already been blown away by reading it on a certain day, and finding that the subject of that day falls perfectly inline with what I am going through that day! My roomate Corrie says this will happen often with this book, shes already read through it all. I'm excited not only about my new literary endevours, which also include a fictional/christian romance novel called, Inklings....and a few other books I picked up over the break. I also have a new roomate this semester Miss Abby Lynn Hendricksen, we've known each other since high school and shes a wonderful addition to the apartment. I wont bore you with other goals/dreams/aspirations I have for the semester, but I also wont break down and call them New Years Resolutions, because I want to have a chance at actually following through with them!Hahahaha
35 Southbound
Sigh......I am back in San Marcos and while I love my family and love being back in Dallas, I couldnt be happier to be back here! Thats all I got for now.....I'll write something much more profound and with some pictures next time promise! Hows that Der!? hahhahaha ;-)
Philly, Chocolate, MOMA, New York City, and a Happy New Year....
I wrote this one about a week ago but never published it, so here it is, DWC to come later! :-)The last 5 days and 4 nights have been quite a whirlwind. While too much of it was wasted on airplanes and in airports in Philly, Dallas, and Atlanta.....the better portion of the last 5 days and 4 nights were spent with a group of people who's friendships have stood the test of both time and location the last 4 months. I hadn't seen any of the people from my summer project at all since the day I left, and from the moment I got picked up at the airport and greeted them all again, it was as if no time had past at all. We all just sorta picked up where we left off and were all SO excited to see each other again!
Just a few things to sum up the trip: A Real Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, Tour of the Hershey's Chocolate Factory in Hershey Pennsylvania, Seeing Amish People ( they drive buggy's and live in little Amish communities and have farms and where the little hats), New York: Museum of Modern Art, Rockafeller Center and the Tree, Jeckle and Hyde, Serendipity, Wearing heels to NYC=fashionable and PAINFUL, Almost missing our subway train, IT WAS COLD THERE the whole time :-)!, Philadelphia Art Museum, climbing the "Rocky" movie steps, New Years Party with everyone, welcome 2006!
We had so much fun and I SO look forward to getting to see all of those wonderful people again someday! Tomm. Everyone is coming to Dallas for DWC!!!!! I'm so excited! Should be a very fun week with all my Best Girls! :-)
